Frequently asked questions
What should you consider when choosing a neck pillow?
The most important factor is support – not softness. Most neck pillows fail because they don't address the real problem: keeping your head stable while sleeping upright in a seat. Look for a flat back so your head isn't pushed forward, and enough front and side support to prevent chin drop and sideways tilt.
Fit matters too. A pillow that sits loosely around your neck loses most of its supportive effect – regardless of how well it's made.
Beyond that, think about your travel style: do you want something compact and adjustable, or ready-to-use comfort straight out of the bag? And do you need balanced everyday support, or stronger stabilization for longer trips?
What is the best neck pillow for flying?
It depends on your travel style. The market offers inflatable models, foam pillows, and structured support variants – each with different strengths.
At FLOWZOOM, we've focused on two approaches: adjustable support with the AIR, and memory foam comfort with the COMFY and DREAM.
Which model is right for you comes down to two questions: Do you want a compact pillow with adjustable firmness – or ready-to-use comfort without inflating anything? And do you need balanced support for most trips, or maximum stabilization for longer flights?
Our pillow quiz helps you find the right model in under a minute.
Do travel pillows actually help on flights?
It depends on the pillow. The real problem on a flight isn't lack of cushioning – it's sleeping upright in a confined space. Your head has nothing to hold it in place, falls forward or to the side, and you keep jolting awake.
A pillow that doesn't directly address this doesn't really help. It makes the seat a little softer – but doesn't solve why you can't sleep.
Our travel pillows are purpose-built for upright sleep in a seat: flat back so your head isn't pushed away from the headrest, and elevated side panels to reduce chin drop and sideways tilt. That's the difference between a pillow that helps – and one that just looks like it does.
How do you use a travel pillow correctly?
The most important step happens before you board: choosing the right model. A pillow that doesn't match your neck, your sitting posture, or your travel style won't work – no matter how well you wear it. That's the most common reason travel pillows disappoint.
Once you have the right model and size, the rest is straightforward: the pillow should sit close to your neck and be fastened firmly enough to actively support your head. Worn too loosely, it loses its supportive effect.
Not sure which model is right for you? Our pillow quiz finds your match in under a minute.
Is an inflatable neck pillow actually comfortable?
Fair question. When most people think inflatable, they picture an over-pumped air mattress – rigid, unnatural, uncomfortable.
The AIR works differently. You decide how firm it feels: more air for stronger support, less air for softer comfort. The pillow adapts to your seat, your sleep position, and your personal preference – not the other way around.
The cover is also designed to release heat outward, so you stay comfortable even on longer flights.
Does a travel pillow count as carry-on luggage?
No. Travel pillows are not counted as a carry-on item – you can bring one on top of your bag or backpack without it affecting your luggage allowance.
If you don't want to pack it inside your bag, you can simply hang it onto your suitcase or backpack using the travel bag it comes with – no extra space needed.
